The Diversity of Dried Flowers in Potpourri
Dried flowers come in an extensive range of colours, shapes, sizes and scents. You can find the perfect dried flower ingredient to compliment a potpourri mix for any season or crafts for any occasion.
At Daisyshop, we have a wide selection of potpourri ingredients for you to combine and create your perfect mix. Below are a some dried flower examples and some inspiration for your potpourri making!
Dried Marigold and Cornflower Petals

For a pop of colour in a potpourri or confetti mix, we love marigold and cornflower petals. Marigold petals are a beautiful saffron orange, and cornflower petals are naturally a vivid blue that would elevate a bright summery potpourri even further. We use both these petals in our gorgeous cornflower confetti and random rainbow confetti mixes, as well as our exclusive Elizabethan potpourri.
Cornflower and marigolds are not just for summer! Check out our unusual Christmas decoration idea where we used both of these colourful flowers in DIY Christmas baubles.
Dried Rose Petals and Lavender
For us, dried rose and lavender are potpourri staples. Both make beautiful potpourri on their own and can be enhanced with their corresponding fragrance oils.
Roses come in an array of colours and in bud or petal form. Try making a rose potpourri using a selection of coloured petals and buds. For our sweetheart mix we use bright red and dark red rose buds with a sprinkling of cream rose petals, perfect for a Valentine’s Day potpourri bowl or in an organza bag as a small gift or favour.
Lavender is a natural moth repellent and has great calming properties, making it exceptionally useful on its own. However we recommend furthering these features through mixture with alike ingredients. For example, for a natural moth repellent mix, we suggest adding cedar roses which are also ideal for this job (as well as looking pretty!). For a bedtime blend, we suggest adding chamomile or hops to the dried lavender in a sachet or organza bag for improved sleep. Adding a few drops of lavender essential oil will enhance both of these features associated with dried lavender.

However, we of course enjoy incorporating multiple ingredients for a more exciting mix. Our Elizabethan potpourri is an exclusive, hand-mixed potpourri utilising multiple of the mentioned dried flowers on this page: rose petals and dried lavender with a sprinkling of cornflower petals and marigolds, orange peel, rose buds and few cloves. We also enhance the fragrance with a few drops of Just Rose fragrance oil.

Whole Flower Options

So far, we have mentioned petals or buds. Two dried flowers we love for potpourri and crafts are dried helichrysum and preserved hydrangeas. Helichrysum flowers would add a beautiful shape to a spring or summer potpourri mix and would also be lovely in a flower crown or wreath.
Similarly, try a preserved hydrangea flower in a flower crown or in confetti if you remove the stem. At Daisyshop, we have dyed these pale pink to add colour and elegance to your summer crafts. You can find out more about the versatility of hydrangeas on our blog.
